“In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.” – Yogi Berra
A few weeks ago, I represented Navigate and sat shoulder-to-shoulder with thought-leaders and doers from IDEO, Thomas Jefferson University, Think Company, and EIR Healthcare at the Healthcare By Design Event, hosted by the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. In focus: the sharing of perspectives on empathy and opportunity-focused delivery in healthcare to create breakthrough experiences for patients and families.
Over the hour, I was inspired by the anecdotes shared by my fellow panelists to illustrate how they have employed ideation, prototyping, and testing in smart and simple ways to rapidly drive change across healthcare. In Navigate’s session, we introduced a “Top 5 List” to help every attendee apply design thinking into their roles and functions across the industry. In the midst of some informative theory, we helped audience members step back from the many stages of the design thinking framework and shared relevant methods of how to leverage the power of design immediately.
